999_whats_your_emergencyEligibility
- You must be over 18, and an AO3 account is needed. Please also ensure you have access to the email address related to your ao3 account.
- Participants may only sign up with a maximum of one account.
Nominations
Your nominations must be for canons that feature emergency service personnel from the following list:
- Ambulances/EMTs/Paramedics
- Coastguard
- Dispatch and Call Handlers
- Fire & Rescue (including Mountain Rescue)
- Hospital Emergency Department
- Police/Security Response Officers
- Other Emergency Service that can be justified as an Emergency Service according to the canon lore. This could include Sci-Fi, Superhero or Supernatural universes where their Emergency Response Personnel may not meet any of the above definitions, or just something not covered by the above (for example, The AA according to their advert with John Cleese - That’s a Yuletide fandom if I’ve ever known one.)
There is no "minimum" with regards to how much of the canon takes place in these scenarios, however, it must be reasonable on receipt of your assignment that the writer will understand which category the character would fall into. Where there is crossover in their role, for example, an ER Doctor could attend an on-site response alongside parademics, please explain what you would and wouldn't like to receive in your sign-up.
For the most part, nominated characters should be serving Emergency Services Personnel and this should be indicated in brackets. They may also feature as the "Target" of the scenario, i.e. the person being rescued/treated etc.If you would like any of the characters from the canon to feature as an emergency caller/patient/victim of a crime or accident, etc. please use the "(Target)" format to nominate them.
For example (9-1-1: Lone Star)
Grace Ryder (Dispatcher) - here you would write Grace in her role as Call Handler/Dispatcher.
Judd Ryder (Firefighter) - here Judd would be in his role as Firefighter.
Grace Ryder (Target) - here Grace could be the one being rescued or treated.
Charlie Ryder (Target) - here, their child Charlie could be the one being rescued or treated.
“Original Character(s) (Target)” and “Any (Target)” will be added to each fandom nominated.
Crossovers, Creator's Choice of Fandom (CCoF) and Original Work
- As no relationships are being nominated, if you would like to nominate a Crossover, please list multiple fandoms in one request.
- Original Work and CCoF may be nominated, as long as they follow the general format:
“Original Male ER Nurse”
“Original Female Parademic”
“Original Non-Binary Coastguard”
"Original Male Character (Target)"
“Firefighter (Target)”
etc.
Sign-Ups and Matching
- A minimum of 3 requests and offers is required.
- To be guaranteed a gift one of these must be an "Emergency Canon" (please see FAQs). To indicate an emergency canon please include this in the top of your "Prompts and DNWs" box at sign-up.
- Assignments are only guaranteed to match on one fandom, one character and one Opt-In.
- When sign-ups close, any unmatchables will be deleted, unless an Emergency Canon has been indicated.
DNWs (Do Not Wants) and Opt-Ins
- When you sign-up, please include anything you absolutely don't want to receive in the "Prompts and DNWs" field on the form. In the event that a DNW is included in your gift, only reasonable DNWs in your sign-up will be enforced. (Please bear in mind that DNWs cannot be used to box your creator into producing a very specific work.) You also must select at least one of the five Opt-In scenarios.
- When creating, you must not violate the DNWs of your recip, or include Opt-In scenarios they have not chosen.
Optional Letters
- "Dear Creator" letters may be linked to in your signup in order to give your gifter further details on your likes and dislikes. These are optional.
Assignments
- Minimum requirements are a complete work of 333 words or more.
- Your assignment must focus on a requested characterand prominently feature an Opt-In Scenario, and must abide by your recipient's Do Not Wants.
- Please do not discuss the details of your assignment in public; creators should remain anonymous until creators are revealed. Do, however, feel free to discuss with a beta reader.
- If your assignment does not match the andom, characters or Opt-Ins you offered, contact the mod as soon as possible. It will not be possible to change assignments for any other reason.
Posting
- To post your fic on AO3: navigate to your AO3 dashboard, click on 'Assignments', find your 999 - What's Your Emergency assignment and click 'Fulfill'.
- Works containing excessive spelling or grammar errors (enough to hinder comprehension) will not be accepted.
- As works should remain anonymous during the collection's anonymous period, do not post your work elsewhere before creator reveals.
- You can edit your work after posting it, but your gift must be complete enough to stand as it is by the deadline.
- Saved drafts do not fulfill assignments. Please ensure that you post your gift!
- The collection will be open for posting from the time signups are open.
Defaulting:
- If you cannot finish your assignment, please default.
- To default: navigate to your AO3 dashboard, click 'Assignments', locate your assignment and click 'Default'.
- If you default and your creator also defaults, you will not be assigned a pinch hitter and are not guaranteed a gift.
- There is no penalty for defaulting before the deadline.
- If you have not posted a gift by the deadline, the mod will default you. You will need to post a full gift for any request in the exchange (excluding your own) before you will be permitted to participate in any further rounds.
Pinch hits
- Pinch hits will be posted to the Dreamwidth community and the relevant flash exchange / small fests channels in EAD/Yuletide Discord servers if needed.
- Please reply to the pinch hit post to claim, including your AO3 username; if you are successful, the mod will contact you and officially assign the pinch hit to you through AO3. Comments are screened.
- You can claim a pinch hit even if you aren't signed up for the exchange, but you will need an AO3 account.
Treats
- You can write additional gifts for other participants and post them to the exchange collection as treats.
- To do this, navigate to the collection and click 'Post to Collection'. You will need to manually add the name of your intended recipient - please check this carefully!
- Treats do not have to fulfill the minimum word count. They must, however, include a fandom, character and Opt-In for any recipient and adhere to their Do Not Wants.
- If you write a treat that doesn't quite fit anyone's request, you're welcome to gift it to the collection without a named recipient. Please do not gift it to me as the mod!
- You are welcome to write treats even if you aren't signed up for the exchange.
